During a surgical extraction: Surgical extraction is a dental procedure performed to remove a tooth that cannot be easily extracted using simple, non-invasive techniques. This type of extraction is typically necessary when a tooth is impacted, severely broken, or has complex root structures.
Anesthesia: The patient is administered local or general anesthesia to ensure they are comfortable and pain-free during the procedure
Incision: The oral surgeon or dentist makes a small incision in the gum tissue to access the affected tooth.
Bone Removal: In cases where the tooth is impacted or surrounded by bone, some bone may need to be removed to access and extract the tooth.
Tooth Removal: The tooth is carefully and precisely removed, often in pieces if necessary, to minimize trauma to the surrounding tissues.
Closure: Once the tooth is extracted, the incision is sutured closed, and gauze is placed to control bleeding.
Surgical extractions are common for wisdom teeth removal, but they may also be necessary for other teeth in certain situations.
